Why You Should Use Igenity® Now

Using the power of DNA, Igenity helps predict your animal's genetic potential earlier than ever before. This inside information can be used at many key points throughout an animal's life to help you succeed through:

  • More savvy breeding decisions
  • More confident heifer buying or selling
  • More selective use of sexed semen
  • More informed selection of donor dams and full sisters
  • More knowledgeable voluntary culling decisions
  • More confident herd management decisions

You will receive an easy-to-use report combining multiple genetic analyses from a single sample.

How to get started.

Start by profiling the animals that have the greatest impact on your herd. Once you start benefiting from the power of the Igenity profile, you'll see a whole new world of management and marketing opportunities open up to you. Igenity is especially beneficial when you:

  • Profile heifers to form a solid fountaion for future genetics. Use the inside information provided by Igenity to decide which heifer is bred to sexed semen, make more precise mating decisions and better marketing decisions, and cull BVD-PI animals.
  • Profile cows for greater confidence in selecting donor dams and recipients — in addition to making more informed mating and culling decisions.

    • Payment for number of tests.

Hair Collection Instructions

1. Pull (do not cut) hair from tail switch, not tail head. Make sure hair is free of fecal material and dirt. Roots must be clearly visible. Pliers help!
2. Approximately 20 to 30 hair roots are needed for animals 90 days or older. Collect 40 to 60 hair roots for calves under 90 days because of their very small follicles. Hair must be clean.
3. Write the animal’s ID number on the collector in the space provided.
4. Open the collector and peel back the plastic cover.
5. Insert the root end of the hair in the middle of the collector. Close the collector by sealing the plastic cover over the hair and then insert the tab into the slot.
6. Trim the excess hair extending from the collector. Put all collectors in the plastic specimen bag for shipment.

Tissue Punch Collection Instructions

1. Make sure the animal is properly restrained. Slide one male part onto the pin of the pliers as far as it will go.
2. Insert the sample collector into the opening under the retention clip, as shown here. Make sure the entire sample container is seated securely under the retainer clip.
3. Position the ear of the animal between the two tag parts of the loaded pliers. Squeeze the collection tool quickly and firmly.
4. Detach the sample container. After collection, the loaded sample is ready to be documented and mailed to Igenity with the completed order form. Document the animal's ID and the barcode number from the sample container on the enclosed order sheet.

It's time you start benefiting from the comprehensive Igenity profile.
